Mavuno Church

Mavuno church was initiated in August 2005 when the Nairobi Chapel multiplied into 5 congregations. The process of multiplying into 5 congregations began as an idea discussed by the elders of Nairobi Chapel in 2003.
Right from the beginning, the emphasis of the church has been on being a loving community that shares the life-changing message of Jesus in ways that are relevant, practical and meaningful to today’s generation. Mavuno desires to be a church that reaches urban young adults who would typically not attend church, and help them discover a life-changing relationship with God.
Leadership
Mavuno Church is led by a pastoral team, under the oversight of its lead pastor, Muriithi Wanjau. Pastor Muriithi reports to the elder’s board of the Nairobi Chapel churches, led by senior pastor Oscar Muriu.
Statement of Belief
Mavuno recognizes that the Bible is Gods written word to man, revealed to and recorded by His apostles and prophets without error. The Bible is also our final authority in all matters of faith and practice.
The church also identifies Jesus Christ as Gods living Word and sacrifice for sin. God took the initiative in sending Jesus into the world so that, through faith in Him, anyone can come to eternal life and a personal relationship with God.
The Church is Christ’s Body on earth in this present age. Every person who has accepted Christ as Lord and Savior is incorporated into the church.
Mavuno also believe;
1. Mavuno Church is not about information but transformation. Exciting worship and hearing God’s word every Sunday are the means to an end, not an end in themselves. Being at Mavuno should result in life-change for people; as seen in their work, parenting, marriage, dating.
2. Mavuno is about ‘real people with real issues encountering a real God’. The church is keen to never be a place where people ‘play church’ as hurting people pretend that all is well with their lives.
3. It believes that if the gospel is real, must have practical answers for the real issues that ordinary people face every day. And so Mavuno focuses on meeting people where they are in order to move them to where God wants them to be.
4. Mavuno exists to see real people with real issues, coming to Jesus, having their lives transformed, and becoming change agents to transform society. Its six sectors of societal focus are church & mission, media & the arts, economy & business, health & the environment, politics & governance, education & family. The church focus is to enable every member of Mavuno to become a fearless influencer in one of these sectors. And as a result, our city, nation and continent will be transformed positively.
Mavuno offers classes such as:-
Mizizi: Mizizi (Swahili for "Roots") is the first 10-week-class of the Mavuno Marathon. It is tailor-made to help you connect with God, connect with Mavuno Church and connect with your purpose.
Discovery: A one year full-time leadership training that will prepare you to become the leader that God created you to be. Discovery will help you discover your gifts, abilities and passions in the context of serving with a dynamic team of leaders. Discovery is housed at Mavuno Church, the home of fearless influencers.
Mavuno is also a tech survey church and uploads its sermons, blogs online and people get to post comments, ask questions online. They also encourage people to watch the sermons online if you’re far from the church or just couldn’t make it.
They also have services for teens called the Teens Konnect and for the young ones too.

Nairobi Light House Chapel

NLC opened its doors to the first congregation of 9 adults and 13 kids on March 15th 1987. It was born out of a passionate desire in Pastor Don and Miss Amy’s hearts to raise leaders who would touch and change the un-reached peoples of this nation and region.
Though Pastor Don and Miss Amy began ministering in various parts of the country in 1975, and more specifically in the coastal zone, God gave them the burden to come to Kenya’s capital and begin spiritually developing men and women who would take on the responsibility of seeing this nation won to Christ. NLC has pursued this through key values of prayer, fervent praise and worship, a relevant word, cells, leadership training and missions.
After much prayer and preparation, NLC embraced cell-group ministry in 1994, with the goal of training every believer to serve as a minister in their home, neighborhood, and work place and beyond. Beginning with 98 cells, the cell group ministry has continued to grow and develop.
Whereas initially these cells were mixed gender and primarily geographical, today the cells are homogenous, gender based and non-geographical. This is to easier facilitate mentorship and discipleship. Many individuals’ lives continue to thrive and be changed through dynamic relationships fostered in cell groups that can be found in almost every corner of the city and beyond.
Vision
NLC's vision is to fulfill the Great Commission in its entirety. The final words of Christ have become our rallying cry and passionate desire - Winning Souls & Making Disciples. We desire to see the earth filled with sons and daughters of God, and they play their part by making it their purpose to reach the lost and the hurting, bring them into the house of God, disciple them and then send them to reach others.
Principle Of 12
NLC's vision of Winning Souls & Making Disciples is built around the Principle of 12.
The Principle of 12 is based on Christ's model - He chose 12 individuals whom he mentored and gave the mandate to reach others. In the same way, NLC believes that every soul that comes into the House of God must be made into a disciple - fruit that remains - and there's no better way to do it than Christ showed: in groups of 12.
Their packages include:
Mandate - Raising Men: The world needs men who will stand up and take their place. These are men who will take up their God-given mandate as servant leaders and be examples of Christ likeness in every aspect of life. Such men who will not shy away from responsibility; will father their children in Godly principles, and give direction to this generation. That is what Mandate, the men’s network of Nairobi Lighthouse Church, is about.
Ladies First: Today’s woman is driven to attain an image as Executive, Super-mom, and Hot Chick, all rolled into one! Even as she pursues this illusive dream, feelings of inferiority, the reality of circumstances, her seasons and her biological clock consistently challenge her goals.
City Lights: Lighting Up the City mainly brings together those in college, those starting off in their careers, and those still youthful at heart. City Lights is well known in this city for its energy, passion and purpose.
Club 8:12: – High scholars Haven, Recently founded, Club 8:12 is the high school ministry of NLC. Put together with the Kenyan teenager in mind, Club 8:12 is NLC’s answer to the coolest Club for high scholars. Club 8:12 brings teenagers together in their small groups, fun events and activities while paying heed to the rigorous academic demands and strict time schedules they often need to keep.
Ignites: - Pre-teens on Fire, The word ignites means, “to set on fire” - the goal of Ignite is to set pre-teens on fire for the Lord!
Pre-teens: today are facing all kinds of demands, risks, expectations and temptations as they grow from childhood to adulthood. This is more than with other generations before! NLC seeks to provide a stable environment for them to grow, while helping them develop and take ownership of godly values. This way they can successfully negotiate the pathway towards adulthood.
Kidz House: - The Younger NLC, children experience church in its fullness every Sunday as they engage in praise and worship, as they receive a ‘now’ word, and experience warm small group fellowship. Their conviction is that Children’s ministry is not about giving children something to do on Sunday morning while their parents have church. Thus, the full-fledged Children’s Church service they have each Sunday replicates the main adult church service but is simplified for the children’s level.
Location
Nairobi Light House is located in Industrial area on Lusaka road next to the City Stadium.

Nairobi Chapel

The Nairobi Chapel was established in the mid 1950’s by ex-British Army soldiers. However, by the late 1980’s, the size of the congregation had declined to a handful of families and the need was felt to indigenize the leadership and reach out to the community, especially the University of Nairobi campus.
Through the committed and visionary leadership of the Senior Pastor, Oscar Muriu, assisted by a dedicated Pastoral Staff and Board of Elders, the Nairobi Chapel has grown within the last 3 years from one congregation with 5 services to 5 congregations.
Mission
The mission of the Nairobi Chapel is to growing DEEP...to Reach WIDE. The intention is for them to be a community deeply rooted in scripture, practicing biblical values in all of life, and thereby reaching far and wide with the gospel.
Their vision is laid out in four main areas:
v Global Church Planting - They trusting God to help them plant 300 churches around the world by the year 2020.
v Aggressive Evangelism - 1 million to Jesus
v Personal Transformation - grow faithful disciples
v Missions Impact - to be a mission’s catalyst church by training and raise up leaders for international ministries; and being a model to other churches in the work of missions and church planting.
Their Ministries:
Adult Ministry: An adult is anyone from the age of twenty one, up until the time the Lord takes him/her home. Many adults are faced with numerous challenges such as parenthood, unemployment, etc.
Nairobi Chapel holds specialist seminars and crisis counseling sessions are also held to address issues of parenthood, grief, divorce and remarriage in addition to the pastoral one-on-one counseling. Again small-group ministries provide the ideal healing and growth environment. Families from different backgrounds can help and grow in the training and nurturing of children.
Youth Ministry;
GUZA (12): Is their pre-teen transitional class. The first of two transitional groups, it seeks to move the teens from a Children’s ministry mindset to a Youth ministry mindset.
CROSSROADS (13): These boys and girls go through lessons the whole year, culminating in Nairobi Chapel’s Rites Of Passage Experience (ROPES) which marks their graduation. The ROPES camp is a simulation of the African rites of passage where the initiates are isolated from community, instructed and challenged in difficult circumstances and then they are celebrated as they are reintegrated back into community. Then they mature into active participants of the TEENZ. TEENZ(14-18) : These are ROPES initiates who have been raised to the (teens) peerage. With their new found status in the community of faith, these 14 -18 year olds are obliged to live responsibly and become a positive influence in their world.
COLLEGE (19-24): This is the highest level of the youth experience. Much emphasis is placed on equipping them for adulthood responsibilities and facing the world. This is an empowered lot of youth and they feed back into the wider ministries of the church. They also form the most significant transitional group.
Children’s Ministry: The church is commitment to nurture children of faith is underpinned by the belief that a strong children’s ministry translates into a strong social fabric.
Nairobi Chapel has been the inspiration behind five more churches and it boasts of both a primary school, theology school and many more initiatives that allow God’s work to be done.
Location
Nairobi Chapel is set on a 14-acre plot that houses both the church and primary schools and is located in Jamuhuri estate in the Ngong road area.

PCEA St. Andrews Church

St. Andrews Church constituted the Overseas Presbytery of the Church of Scotland for 46 years up to 1956 when the united Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA) was formed putting together the Overseas Presbytery of the Church of Scotland centered in St. Andrews Church, Nairobi; Gospel Mission Society centered in Kenya region.
A partnership with the Church of Scotland was however retained with the senior minister coming from the Church of Scotland and a concordant of St. Andrews Church being appended to that of PCEA. The first African Senior Minister of the parish was installed in 1975 and the separate constitution of St. Andrews removed by the General Assembly in 1988, thus making St, Andrews but one of the ordinary parishes of the church.
One of the greatest contributions of St. Andrews Church to date has been in the expansion of the PCEA within the city of Nairobi and its environs. Between 1975 and 1988 they founded other out stations in other suburbs of Nairobi City.
Those stations have now grown to autonomous parishes compelling the General Assembly create Milimani Presbytery that is mainly composed of parishes cropping out of St. Andrews Parish.
POLICY
Presbyterian Churches of East Africa is run through a three tier court system including the Parish Kirk Session, the Presbytery and the General Assembly.
The General Assembly: is the supreme policy making body of the church and the highest court of appeal for any disputes originating from the lower courts. It is composed of Commissioners elected by Presbyteries and also includes representatives of all church groups represented attend the highest court of appeal for any disputes originating from the lower courts at the presbytery level.
The Presbytery: is the highest court of the church in all matters both spiritual and temporal. PCEA is divided into 27 Presbyteries covering the three East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. The Presbytery court draws its membership from Parish Kirk sessions through a system of representation and pairing and also includes elected leaders of church groups as is stipulated in the 'Practice and Procedure' of the Church. However the membership of the ordained clergy and laity is equal in both composition of the Presbytery and in any business conducted thereof.
The kirk session: which is the lowest court is composed of ordained church elders and the ordained ministers of the gospel. The former is referred to as ''Ruling Elders'' the latter as "Teaching Elders" who are ordained for life. Every Ruling Elder takes charge over a designated geographical area in which part of the membership of the church reside. That area is referred to as "Elder's District". In an Elder's District the Elder is responsible for the pastoral care and maintenance of the home church. This role is played jointly with the Church Deacons and Deaconesses in liaison with the clergy.

Ministry
The youth ministry: is a home away from home. They do their best to integrate in all the aspects of our lives- Physical, mental, social and financial- with the power of the Holy-spirit, bearing in mind that the work of Christians is not merely going to church on Sunday, but rather a daily affair.
Not forgetting the temptations, troubles, sufferings and inconsistencies in this world. The youth can find a place where they can relate with other saved peers. Living in a time where Christianity gets tested, they can find a solace. They are free to ask for solutions to their problems in a comfortable environment, where they can have examples from those who are older than them.
YOUTH MINISTRY – X-CANS: The purpose of the X-cans ministry under the youth ministry is to bring together peers who have just cleared high school to go through a one year journey together sharing experiences and building one another in Christ. Its other purpose is to provide an opportunity for them to learn their strengths, and create opportunities for them to channel their energies in the right direction.
Young Adults: In Good Shepherd Church the young adults are headed by Tony Njoroge. The Young Adults Ministry created as a positive forum for young people’s to access guidance and advice on the pressures that come with these times we are living in.
Their special needs are addressed by Tony Njoroge and the appropriate guidance offered. Many of the members in the young Adults are between 22-35 years of age.
Women ministry: The purpose of women's ministry is to edify women by providing a forum for women to gain and apply Biblical knowledge so that lives can be transformed in accordance to God's will.
Men ministry: What Is the First Step to Becoming a Successful Christian Man? To know Him,(God) is the ultimate goal as Christian Men. The Bible tells us that if we want our plans to succeed, they must include God.
Together we'll praise God for our successes, pray for each others needs, and discuss what it really means to be a successful Christian Man – in all areas of our lives.

Nairobi Gospel Assembly Church

Mission: To transform the lives of God’s people for spiritual and physical prosperity by preaching the kingdom of God and those things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ.
Vision: To see the church flourishing and holistically transforming people’s lives through the anointed gospel globally.
Nairobi Gospel Assembly Belief
In essentials we have unity: There is one body and one Spirit, there is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, and one God and Father of us all.
In non essentials we have liberty: Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters. Who are you to judge someone else’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls . . . So then each of us will give an account of himself to God. . . So whatever you believe about these things keep between yourself and God.
The bible: That the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, was given by the inspiration of God, and is our only rule in matters of faith, doctrine and practice.
v In creation; that man was created by God and in the image of God.
v That Adam and Eve, in yielding to the temptation of Satan, became fallen creatures.
v That all men are born in sin, and thus the necessity for repentance.
v In the incantation, the virgin birth of and deity of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God.
v In His vicarious and substitution death on the cross as (the) atonement for the sins of mankind by the shedding of His own blood at Calvary.
v That grace and works as recorded in James chapter 2 are compatible.
v That justification must be sustained by obedience to God’s Word.
v In the resurrection of his body from the tomb, His ascension to Heaven, and that He is now our Advocate.
v The church to be a direct result of the first advent and those men are to be actively drawn to it.
v Immersion water baptism to be scriptural when administered to believers only.
v In the necessity of the New Birth and that this New Birth is through the regeneration of the Holy Spirit as recorded in the second chapter of acts.
That this statement of faith is sufficient basis for Christian fellowship and that all born-again men and women who sincerely accept this, can and should live together in peace and that it is their Christian duty to promote harmony among the members of the Body of Christ as also to work together to get the Gospel to as many people as possible in the shortest period of time.
